Community Physio has decades of experience providing long term neurological treatment and management. The neurological conditions and symptoms we typically treat include any condition where the brain, spinal-cord or peripheral nerves are affected.
We have treated a wide variety of neurological conditions including;
- Strokes
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Ataxia
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Spinal trauma
- Head injury and headaches/migraines
- Dementia
We have also treated rarer neurological conditions for example Charcot-Marie- Tooth, Hereditary Neuropathy with Liability to Pressure Palsy. The aim is the same as other conditions, however more than one body part is usually affected.
It is important to exercise regularly in order to encourage the nerves in the brain to keep active and develop. This is termed neuro-plasticity.
It may be difficult access parts of the body independently if the tone in the muscles has lowered and that’s when treatment can be beneficial to facilitated the movement and activity. This may be due to changes in muscle tone. If the muscle tone increases it’s very important to stretch regularly in order to maintain soft tissue length and join range of movement.
Quite often fatigue can be a problem and it is important to manage this aspect of your condition in order for you to function and do the things you enjoy each day. The balance can also be affected that’s why our treatment regimens are bespoke in order to achieve your goals.
Some conditions are progressive and therefore it is important to maintain as much muscular strength/flexibility and joint range of movement as possible. Irrespective, we can help you retain and develop your mental and physical well-being, so give us a call.
